Deeply concerned by these developments, Priyanka Gandhi's office issued a formal scam alert on Instagram on Thursday.
Spreading the Trap Across Social Media
The office stated that deepfake videos and fabricated photos utilizing AI-generated versions of Priyanka Gandhi are currently circulating on WhatsApp, Instagram, and various other social media platforms. These deceptive clips instruct viewers to invest their money in dubious ventures. The office has firmly declared that all such videos are scams. Citizens have been strongly advised to refrain from clicking on any such links, avoid making any investments, and immediately report and block these malicious posts.
Previous Instances Involving High Profile Leaders
This is not an isolated incident of AI impersonation targeting top Indian public figures. Back in the month of August, a similar fabricated video surfaced featuring Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, which was subsequently debunked by the government. That particular video claimed that an initial investment of 22,000 rupees would yield returns of 5.5 lakh rupees every single week. It served as a promotional stunt for a fictitious investment program. The PIB Fact Check Unit investigated the matter and officially confirmed that the video was entirely fake and engineered through artificial intelligence.

The PIB had clarified at the time that the Finance Minister had never endorsed any such investment schemes or external platforms. The public has repeatedly been urged to stay vigilant against such fraudsters who use lucrative fake promises to siphon off hard-earned money. By replicating the voices and faces of prominent leaders and celebrities through AI, they manage to gain trust and swindle victims out of massive sums of money.
