Mumbai: A major controversy unfolded in the Mazgaon area of Mumbai when miscreants threw eggs at devotees participating in a Ganesha arrival procession, prompting a swift police crackdown resulting in the arrest of the main accused, Danish Sher Khan. The 22-year-old accused runs an online-based egg home delivery business in the locality. Law enforcement agencies managed to apprehend him within 36 hours of the incident by leveraging technical investigation tools and local leads.

The incident occurred on August 23 during the grand arrival procession organized by the Mazgaoncha Morya Ganpati Mandal. Unidentified individuals hurled eggs from upper floors at the devotees taking part in the celebrations, directly threatening public peace and law and order in the area. Taking immediate cognizance of the disruption, the Byculla police station registered a formal case under Crime Register No. 520/2026, invoking sections 299 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, authorities formed five specialized investigative teams to comb the local area and track down the culprit.
Motive Behind the Egg-Throwing Incident
During subsequent interrogation, Danish Sher Khan revealed the bizarre motivation behind his actions. He explained that he works as a delivery agent supplying eggs to customers based on online orders. On the day of the procession, he entered a residential building located along Rambhau Bhogle Marg to fulfill a delivery. At that exact moment, heavy firecrackers were being burst as part of the Ganesha procession passing down the street, filling the air with thick smoke and loud noise. Annoyed and angered by the smoke and disturbance caused by the fireworks, he committed the act out of sudden rage.

The unexpected egg-throwing incident triggered immediate outrage, causing a large crowd to assemble at the spot and raise slogans in protest. Tensions flared rapidly, leading to a minor clash between two rival groups at the location.
