Udaipur: Rajasthan's Udaipur is globally renowned as a major tourist hub, attracting countless domestic and international travelers annually to witness its scenic heritage. However, a shocking case of fraud recently unfolded at a luxury property in the city, leaving a prominent five-star establishment high and dry.
Anurag Yadav, a resident of Delhi, arrived in Udaipur alongside his family for a leisure trip. The family chose to stay at the luxury five-star property The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur. Alongside Anurag Yadav, the traveling party consisted of his wife and two children.
According to the itinerary, the family spent a full ten days residing on the premises, making full use of the premium hospitality, dining services, and modern amenities available. Yet, upon the arrival of the checkout date, the family departed without clearing the total accumulated bill of Rs 5.74 lakh.
Formal Complaint Lodged at Ambamata Police Station
Following the disappearance of the guests, the hotel administration moved quickly to take legal recourse. Ravindra Singh, the liaison manager for the hotel, filed an official complaint at the Ambamata police station in Udaipur city, prompting law enforcement to initiate an investigation.
Details outlined in the police report indicate that the booking was initiated on August 12 via an email sent by Maker Baha Travel Agency. Subsequently, Anurag Yadav and his family checked into the property and stayed from August 14 through August 23.
Checkout Dispute and Travel Agency Stance
When the scheduled departure arrived on August 24, the guest refused to clear the financial dues totaling Rs 5.74 lakh. Anurag argued that the travel agency was responsible for settling the expenses, creating an immediate standoff.
However, upon verification, the travel agency firmly denied having any such financial arrangement or agreement during the booking process. Investigators noted that the primary assessment points toward a premeditated fraud involving the tourist. The accused works at a private firm in Delhi, and local authorities are currently conducting a thorough probe into the matter.
