Enforcement Directorate has set its sights on IAS officer Anurag Verma. Amid serious allegations of extending undue benefits to private builders, the federal agency has summoned him for questioning. This legal tangle revolves around projects linked to Suntech City and Altus Space Builder Private Limited.
Allegations of Land Use and Layout Tampering
According to the allegations surrounding these projects, rules were bent to favor developers. Not only was the land use altered, but layouts were also manipulated deliberately. Furthermore, proposals for transferring group housing sites at Muyrwodds Ecocity had already been rejected by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, known as GMADA. Despite this rejection, the sites were transferred to Gaurav Dhir's firm Dhir Construction.
Policy Changes and Questions Over Past Tenures
The case has also raised serious questions regarding alterations made to government policies. Investigators are scrutinizing a policy modification enacted back in 2022 during the tenure of the then-minister Aman Arora. The financial crime agency is currently examining this specific decision alongside the subsequent transfers of land parcels.
Investigating Falsified Data and Applied Sections
Regarding the Suntech City venture, it is alleged that the builder furnished incorrect information to the authorities. Despite this discrepancy, action was taken under Section 85 of the PRTPD Act rather than invoking the stricter Section 90. The agency is now trying to uncover who ultimately profited from these layout and land use modifications. Investigators are also reviewing the decision-making pipeline and the specific roles played by various officials. However, the allegations remain unconfirmed at this stage, and the factual position will only become clear once the probe concludes.
