A gruesome discovery in Guwahati's Beltola locality has left residents in shock after a woman's mutilated body was found inside a house, with her severed head hidden inside a refrigerator wrapped in plastic bags. Police confirmed details of the case on Monday.
Neighbours' complaint led police to the scene
According to a police officer, neighbours alerted police on Sunday night after a foul smell began emanating from the house. When officers arrived and searched the premises, they found the headless torso lying on the floor. On checking the refrigerator, they recovered the severed head wrapped inside a plastic bag. Based on the condition of the body, the officer said the killing appears to have taken place 24 to 48 hours earlier.
Who was the victim
The deceased has been identified as Ria Talukdar, who worked at a boutique. Her husband works as a cab driver, and the couple lived together at the house where the body was found.
Husband named prime suspect, surrenders
Police say the woman's husband is the main suspect in the case. He reportedly surrendered before police himself. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination, and the investigation into the case is ongoing. Authorities have not yet issued any official statement on the motive behind the killing.
