A major security scare unfolded mid-air aboard a domestic passenger service operating out of Bengaluru, forcing an unscheduled return and an emergency landing. The IndiGo flight, which had just departed for Lucknow from Karnataka, had to abruptly alter its route after the crew stumbled upon an alarming written message inside the aircraft's restroom.
The incident took place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, involving flight number 6E-451, which initially took off smoothly from Terminal-1 of the Kempegowda International Airport. Shortly after the wheels left the ground and the journey commenced, members of the cabin crew discovered a handwritten note tucked away in the lavatory. The message explicitly warned that the aircraft was slated to be hijacked, creating immediate panic and concern among the personnel on board.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the flight crew promptly alerted the pilot in command. The pilot wasted no time in communicating with air traffic control to declare the emergency and request immediate priority clearance to turn the aircraft around and head back to Bengaluru. Given the severe nature of the threat, airport authorities declared a full-scale emergency on the ground to facilitate a swift and secure touchdown.
Upon landing safely, the aircraft was immediately steered to an isolated bay away from the main terminal buildings. Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force and local law enforcement swiftly cordoned off the perimeter. Following established protocols, all passengers were evacuated safely, and their belongings underwent strict screening procedures. Sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads were deployed to conduct a comprehensive sweep of the cabin and cargo holds.
Investigating authorities are currently working to trace the origins of the threatening note and identify the individual responsible for placing it inside the aircraft lavatory. Security teams are reviewing passenger manifests and boarding procedures to uncover how the breach occurred. The incident has triggered renewed scrutiny over airline security protocols as agencies continue their rigorous probe into the matter.
