Indian investigating authorities have secured another significant breakthrough in their international crackdown against the illicit Mahadev online betting network. Ravi Uppal, regarded as the primary associate of syndicate mastermind Saurabh Chandrakar, has been taken into custody in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This major enforcement action follows the recent extradition of Chandrakar to India from Oman, a development described by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai as a critical success in dismantling the syndicate.
Global Operations and Financial Networks
The core allegations revolve around an expansive illegal gambling and financial routing operation managed globally through the Mahadev app platform. Chandrakar, whose journey traced from operating a local juice stall to hosting an extravagant 200 crore rupee wedding celebration in Dubai, built this coordinated operation alongside Uppal. Law enforcement authorities have been pursuing both key operators through international diplomatic and legal channels to stop unauthorized offshore wagering operations targeting domestic users.
Expanding Enforcement and Substantial Attachments
The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has steadily escalated its proceedings against the financial apparatus powering the platform. Investigations earlier saw the provisional attachment of assets valued at 940 crore rupees, pushing the cumulative value of seized and attached properties beyond 3,800 crore rupees. Previous operational milestones included the arrest of wanted figure Abhishek Kumar, from whom incriminating materials were recovered, as well as the 24-hour custodial remand of Ebix chairman Vikas Garg. Uppal's custody in the UAE marks a decisive phase in uncovering further transaction routes and shell entities.
