A shocking and deeply distressing incident of sexual abuse has come to light from the Kutch district of Gujarat, where a 13-year-old eighth-grade student was repeatedly assaulted inside a residential school. The crime took place in the Rapar taluka at an institution run by 'Gram Swaraj Sangh', a prominent organization that supposedly operates on Gandhian principles and works toward the social and educational upliftment of marginalized children. Following the discovery of the heinous crime, local police have initiated a rigorous investigation and registered a case of gangrape and sexual assault against four individuals, including the school's principal.
Shocking Revelations During Independence Day Preparations
The horrific abuse of the minor student came to light entirely by chance during the preparations for the Independence Day celebrations around August 15. A female teacher working at the residential school found a used pregnancy test kit discarded on the school grounds. Disturbed by the discovery of such an item in a school hosting young children, the teacher immediately brought the matter to the attention of the girls' hostel warden. Realizing the gravity of the situation, they decided to check the security camera footage from the campus to identify who had brought the kit inside.
Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, both the teacher and the warden were shocked to see the pregnancy test kit falling directly out of the pocket of the school's principal as he walked across the campus. This visual evidence confirmed his direct involvement and raised immediate alarms about the safety of the young girls residing in the hostel. The matter was subsequently reported to the secretary of the trust running the school, and the local police were eventually contacted after a significant delay.
Attempts to Cover Up the Crime and Protect the Institution
Despite the severity of the offense, the school administration did not initially report the matter to the police, choosing instead to handle it internally to avoid public scandal. According to law enforcement officials, the school management attempted to suppress the entire incident. Instead of contacting the police as legally required in cases involving minors, the administration simply suspended the principal from his duties and quietly sent the victimized girl back to her parents' house, hoping to keep the crime hidden.
Inspector R.L. Khattana of the Rapar police station criticized the school administration's handling of the situation. He pointed out that since the minor girl was under the institutional custody and care of the school, it was the absolute legal responsibility of the management to inform the police immediately about any suspicion of sexual abuse. By failing to do so, suspending the principal quietly, and sending the girl away, the administration actively tried to hush up the matter and delayed critical legal action.
Police Intervention and Severe Charges Under BNS and POCSO
The local police eventually intervened after learning about the incident through their own channels. Working closely with the Child Welfare Committee, officers managed to trace the victim and establish contact with her family. Following a detailed inquiry, a formal FIR was registered at the Rapar police station on September 25. The criminal complaint was filed against four individuals: the principal, the hostel warden, a member of the trust's core committee, and the trust secretary, for their direct involvement in the assault and their failure to report the abuse.
The accused face severe charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police investigations revealed that the principal's residential quarters were located right next to the girls' hostel. Taking advantage of this proximity, the principal allegedly lured the 13-year-old girl to an isolated, deserted spot behind the hostel building, where he assaulted her. These incidents occurred on two occasions before August 15 and twice after the Independence Day celebrations. Background checks on the principal revealed that he was an alumnus of the same school, having studied there before working as a teacher for two years and eventually being promoted to the position of principal.
