A devastating road crash in the Greater Kailash-1 area of South Delhi claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman and left her 65-year-old husband injured on the evening of August 23. The incident occurred around 7:30 PM near the Kailash Colony Metro Station when an out-of-control car rammed into several other vehicles before plowing into the elderly couple who were crossing the road on foot.
Collision Details and Medical Emergency
The sudden crash caused widespread panic among pedestrians and commuters near the Kailash Colony metro corridor. Good Samaritans and emergency responders immediately rushed the victims to the nearby Moolchand Hospital for urgent medical care. Upon arrival, medical personnel evaluated the victims and tragically pronounced 71-year-old Shashi dead. Her husband, 65-year-old Kulbhushan, suffered multiple bodily injuries during the impact. Medical staff treated his wounds and subsequently deemed him clinically fit to provide a formal statement to investigating officers regarding the tragic sequence of events.
Police Investigation and Arrest under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Law enforcement authorities mobilized after receiving a Police Control Room (PCR) call reporting the vehicular accident in Greater Kailash. Officers arrived at the scene to secure the area and swiftly took the reckless driver into custody. A formal First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the driver under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include Section 281 for rash and negligent driving, Section 125(a) for acts endangering the life or personal safety of others resulting in hurt, and Section 106 for causing death by negligence. Authorities confirmed that the vehicle driver remains under arrest while further procedural investigation into the circumstances of the collision proceeds.
Parallel High-Speed Vehicular Accident at ITO Intersection
In a separate vehicular collision that highlighted growing concerns over road safety in the national capital, a high-speed vehicle lost control at the busy ITO red light intersection, directly opposite the old Police Headquarters (PHQ). The speeding automobile broke through the central concrete divider, crossed over into oncoming traffic lanes, and finally smashed into the protective iron railing along the pedestrian sidewalk. The violent force of the impact virtually destroyed the front structure of the vehicle. Multiple individuals, including two Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), sustained injuries in this separate crash and required prompt emergency medical attention.
