Police in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh have successfully solved a four-month-old blind murder mystery using scientific evidence and DNA analysis. The incident occurred in the Kapu police station area, where a man brutally murdered his wife, Chameli Sidar, following a minor argument over cooking vegetables. After committing the crime, the accused attempted to destroy all evidence by burning her body and burying the remaining bones underneath a stone in his home courtyard.
Domestic Dispute Escalates and Attempt to Conceal Evidence
According to the Kapu police, a heated altercation broke out between the accused husband and his wife, Chameli Sidar, regarding the preparation of vegetables. As the argument intensified, the husband strangled her to death. To cover up the murder, he set her body on fire. Once the remains were burnt, he dug up the courtyard of his house and buried the bone fragments under a heavy stone to eliminate physical evidence.
Following the crime, the accused walked into the Kapu police station to file a missing person report for his wife in an effort to mislead investigators. However, during interrogation, police officers detected severe contradictions in his statements, raising strong suspicions about his involvement. The police then questioned the family members of Chameli Sidar, which further solidified their doubts against the husband.
Courtyard Excavation, DNA Match, and Police Arrest
Acting on suspicion, the police team, accompanied by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit, excavated the designated spot in the courtyard of the accused person's house. Human bones were recovered from the location and dispatched for scientific testing and DNA comparison. The resulting DNA report confirmed beyond doubt that the recovered bones belonged to Chameli Sidar. Upon the formal registration of the murder case, the suspect fled the village.
Police personnel set up camp outside the village for three consecutive days to track down the fleeing suspect. Following continuous surveillance and cordon operations, law enforcement officers apprehended him. During sustained questioning, the accused confessed to the murder. Additional SP Anil Soni confirmed that scientific evidence and DNA test findings proved decisive in uncovering the truth behind this complex unsolved murder. The accused remains in custody as legal proceedings move forward.
