Ludhiana: A tragic industrial accident took place at a steel rolling mill situated in Alohar village near Khanna in the Ludhiana district. During the metal melting process on Saturday, the furnace unit suddenly experienced a massive surge, causing hot molten material to spill directly onto the workers standing nearby. This sudden mishap left a total of six workers severely burned and injured, creating immediate panic and chaos across the entire factory premises. All the injured individuals were rushed swiftly to a nursing home located in Khanna city for urgent medical attention.
One Worker Passes Away During Treatment
Following initial first aid, three of the critically injured workers were referred to the DMC Hospital in Ludhiana city due to their worsening condition. Tragically, during the course of treatment at the hospital, one of the injured workers, Rakesh Kumar, succumbed to his injuries and passed away. Medical treatment for the remaining injured workers is currently ongoing as doctors work to stabilize their conditions. Local law enforcement and administrative teams quickly took cognizance of the incident following the report of the tragedy.
Preliminary Findings Point to Gas Buildup in Furnace
According to initial investigations, the heating process was underway to produce ingots and billets at the facility. Investigators suspect that a small metal piece, pipe, or shocker fragment might have been inadvertently left inside the melting material, which generated gas and triggered a sudden boil, causing the scorching liquid to splash onto the personnel. Meanwhile, the factory owner stated that every possible form of assistance and support would be extended to the affected workers and their families in the wake of the accident.
Police Initiate Thorough Investigation
Sadar Police Station Inspector Pavitr Singh stated that local authorities are actively investigating the incident from all possible angles. Law enforcement officials noted that formal statements from the injured workers will be recorded shortly, and strict legal action will be pursued based on the findings of the inquiry. Authorities are examining whether safety protocols and operational guidelines were adequately maintained at the industrial plant during the mishap.
