Digital asset management company SharpLink has announced a strategic shift in its crypto treasury operations, committing $200 million worth of Ethereum (ETH) to liquid staking through the Lido protocol. The primary goal of this multi-million dollar allocation is to generate recurring treasury returns on the company's Ethereum reserves while delivering enhanced productivity for shareholders. By routing the allocation into wrapped staked ETH (wstETH), SharpLink aims to capture native network rewards without forfeiting operational flexibility across decentralized finance (DeFi) markets.
Liquid Staking Mechanism and Anchorage Digital Custody
Under the planned deployment, the $200 million capital pool will be converted into wrapped staked ETH (wstETH). This receipt token reflects the underlying staked Ethereum alongside accumulated staking rewards. Traditional direct staking locks crypto assets on-chain, restricting quick reallocations. Liquid staking resolves this friction by providing a tokenized proof-of-stake derivative. To adhere to institutional risk management guidelines, SharpLink specified that the entire wstETH balance will be held in custody with Anchorage Digital.
Integrating Lido expands SharpLink's existing staking and restaking architecture. The wstETH token maintains composability, allowing it to be deposited as collateral or utilized across various Ethereum-based DeFi protocols while the base ETH continues earning validation rewards. This dual-layer yield approach equips SharpLink with capital efficiency and liquidity preservation.
Lido Protocol Market Metrics and Institutional Adoption
Lido remains the dominant liquid staking solution on the Ethereum network. Protocol statistics indicate approximately $16.5 billion in total value locked (TVL) in staked ETH on the platform. Furthermore, wstETH is currently integrated into over 100 decentralized finance protocols, with roughly $10 billion actively deployed as collateral across crypto lending and trading markets.
Commenting on the initiative, SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom noted that this represents an exciting expansion in making their ETH even more productive by leveraging wstETH's composability while maintaining institutional-grade risk standards. Lido Labs Foundation Executive Director Vasiliy Shapovalov highlighted that SharpLink's adoption demonstrates growing institutional trust in native protocols, emphasizing that being bullish on ETH is fundamentally being bullish on core Ethereum applications.
Flexibility for Corporate Treasuries and Deployment Timeline
Kean Gilbert, Head of Institutional Relations at Lido Institutional, pointed out that corporate treasuries increasingly demand yield options that do not compromise liquidity. He explained that treasuries want their ETH working for them without losing liquidity, and Lido has established itself as the scale solution. Holding wstETH allows an entity of SharpLink's scale to earn rewards while preserving deployment versatility.
SharpLink has not disclosed the precise deployment schedule for the $200 million allocation or the expected percentage yield. The company maintained that the initiative is part of an ongoing effort to boost the productivity of its digital asset treasury.
