The legal challenges for Cockroach Janata Party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das have intensified following their recent detention in the national capital. Authorities have officially transferred the investigation surrounding their unauthorized entry into a restricted zone to the Delhi Police Crime Branch. According to police insiders, this move aims to facilitate a thorough and comprehensive inquiry into all aspects of the ongoing controversy.
The Jantar Mantar Protest and Detention
The controversy dates back to October 13, when Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das, and Ajinkya Shinde arrived at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The political figures and their supporters entered a designated prohibited zone within the area and began raising slogans in defiance of local regulations. Security personnel stationed at the site swiftly intervened and detained the individuals for trespassing in a restricted area without prior official permission. Following their preventive detention, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were presented before a magistrate on October 14, who initially remanded both leaders to judicial custody for five days.
Custody Extended by SEM Court
A bail application and hearing were scheduled before the SEM Court to seek the release of the two CJP leaders. However, instead of securing their freedom, the court ordered a two-day extension to their ongoing judicial custody. Consequently, both Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das will remain incarcerated as investigators from the Crime Branch dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized entry and related allegations.
