Political mobilization across Uttar Pradesh is gaining momentum ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, with party leaders hitting the campaign trail in full force. Against this charged political backdrop, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi addressed a public rally in Rampur on Monday, delivering a sharp critique of established opposition alliances. Owaisi declared unequivocally that Muslims across the state will no longer accept a Nehru, Gandhi, or any Yadav as their representative, emphasizing that the community must be led by a leader from among themselves.
Sharpening Attacks on Samajwadi Party and Congress
Speaking from the dais in Rampur, Asaduddin Owaisi questioned the conduct of both the Samajwadi Party and Congress regarding minority issues. He expressed strong solidarity with incarcerated politician Azam Khan, pointing out the stark contrast in how Akhilesh Yadav reacts to different controversies. Owaisi highlighted that Azam Khan has spent years in prison, while numerous other Muslim leaders also remain behind bars, yet Akhilesh Yadav routinely avoids even uttering their names. In contrast, Owaisi pointed out, whenever an allegation or action touches a Yadav leader, the Samajwadi Party immediately brings traffic to a halt with street blockades.
This rhetoric follows Owaisi's previous address in Shravasti, where he warned political parties to abandon the presumption that Muslim voters represent guaranteed political property. In that appearance, he insisted that traditional parties must cease treating minority constituents as an automatic electoral entitlement.
Electoral Exploitation and the Fight for Rights
Turning his focus toward Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi stated that both Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav have treated the minority community strictly as a vote bank. He remarked that ordinary Muslims have historically been reduced to mere campaign workers tasked with rolling out event rugs, but asserted that this arrangement has reached its expiration date. Owaisi urged voters to see through political figures who actively seek to prevent Muslims from developing an independent political voice in Uttar Pradesh.
Furthermore, Owaisi maintained his unwavering opposition to the SIR framework, stating that he opposed it in the past and will continue to stand against it. He underscored that his priority is not the electoral fortune of the INDIA bloc, but rather the grievances and basic rights of the poor, declaring that his political mission revolves around fulfilling the aspirations and securing the rightful entitlements of marginalized citizens.
Upcoming Assembly Electoral Landscape
Elections for the 403 constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly are likely to take place during February and March 2027. Reaching the government formation threshold in the assembly requires securing a minimum of 202 seats. With the polling calendar approaching, contestation over minority voting dynamics across the state is set to intensify significantly.
