Delhi Police took Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke into custody on Friday evening. The police action occurred ahead of a planned demonstration at Central Park in Connaught Place, which was announced by Dipke following the earlier arrests of CJP members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. According to available information, Delhi Police detained Dipke in preventive custody while he was heading toward Central Park.
Notices Issued by Delhi Police
Delhi Police teams visited Abhijeet Dipke's residence on Friday to serve two notices. One notice was issued from New Delhi under the Delhi Police Act, instructing him not to visit Central Park due to the implementation of Section 163 of the BNS. The second notice came from South West Delhi Police, reminding him that Dipke, Ashutosh, and Saurav had previously been bound down after being detained as a precautionary measure at the airport and presented before a court, which had ordered them not to create any disturbance for a year.
Heavy Security Fortification Across Central Delhi
Delhi Police maintained extensive preparations on Friday to handle the situation. Connaught Place, Central Park, and the entirety of central Delhi underwent complete security fortification. More than 6,000 Delhi Police personnel were deployed across the sensitive zone, alongside 220 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) standing ready. Over 10 new CCTV cameras were installed around Central Park and Rajiv Chowk. Police and paramilitary forces maintained a strict presence in key areas including Connaught Place, Rajiv Chowk, Central Park, Jantar Mantar, and Palika Bazar. Inside Central Park, a seven-layer security ring was established, with additional police personnel summoned from other districts.
Barricades and Municipal Restrictions
According to reports, nearly 5,000 police personnel were kept in reserve. Police set up barricades at multiple locations, including Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, ITO, and Sansad Marg. In view of the CJP protest, the New Delhi Municipal Council closed Central Park for today and tomorrow. Meanwhile, police indicated that if the protesters wish, consideration could be given to permitting them to hoist the national flag and sing the national anthem at an alternate venue.
