Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav is scheduled to visit Rampur Jail on October 22 at 12 noon to hold a private meeting with senior party colleague Azam Khan. Jail authorities have allocated a 45-minute window for the discussion between the two leaders. Following the meeting inside the correctional facility, Yadav is also scheduled to visit Khan's residence to meet his wife and son.
Political Significance and Timing
The upcoming visit carries notable political weight across Uttar Pradesh. Just days earlier, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi publicly accused the Samajwadi Party leadership during a rally in Rampur of neglecting Azam Khan while he remains incarcerated. Amid ongoing preparations for upcoming Legislative Council contests and the broader 2027 assembly elections, this visit aims to counter criticism and reinforce party cohesion.
Prior Outreach and Internal Discussions
The planned meeting follows recent interactions between the two sides. Khan's wife previously met Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow to discuss prevailing developments. Earlier in August, Samajwadi Party national general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav also visited Rampur Jail to meet Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan. Reports indicate Khan had also conveyed input regarding preferred candidates across 15 assembly constituencies, underscoring the strategic relevance of these jailhouse discussions.
