A fire tore through the parking area of a multi-storey building in Delhi's Fateh Nagar locality at around 3:50 am, and things turned far more dangerous when two LPG cylinders stored there caught fire and exploded with a loud blast. The explosion echoed through the neighbourhood and sent nearby residents into a panic. Both cars and both scooters parked there were reduced to ashes in the fire, though no one suffered any injury in the incident.
Flames Raced Up a 200-Square-Yard Building
The fire broke out in the parking area of a multi-storey building spread over roughly 200 square yards at D-177, near Jail Road in Fateh Nagar, West Delhi. Flames climbed rapidly toward the upper floors, trapping several people inside the building. The situation worsened once the two LPG cylinders in the parking area exploded, and both cars along with both scooters caught fire.
Nine Fire Engines Rushed In, Eight People Rescued
Nine Delhi Fire Service vehicles rushed to the spot as soon as the blaze was reported. Firefighters first pulled the 8 people trapped inside the building to safety before turning to douse the flames. Ravi Nath, Assistant Divisional Officer of the Delhi Fire Service, said the trapped residents were rescued in time and the fire was brought fully under control, adding that no one lost their life in the incident.
Delhi's Fire Incidents Keep Piling Up
The Fateh Nagar blaze adds to a string of recent fires in the capital. On Sunday, a warehouse in Swaroop Colony in Fatehpur Beri, South Delhi, caught fire and the flames spread to an adjoining building; it took 15 fire tenders considerable effort to bring that blaze under control.
A day earlier, on Saturday night at around 9:11 pm, a house caught fire in the Majlis Park area of northwest Delhi, which was extinguished with the help of 5 fire tenders. Fortunately, neither the Fatehpur Beri fire nor the Majlis Park fire resulted in any casualties, and everyone involved remained safe.
