Vivo smartphone owners are about to see a substantial software overhaul. The company has confirmed that its next operating system, OriginOS 7, will be unveiled on September 16, with the reveal taking place at its annual Vivo Developer Conference, known as VDC. The new software is said to be built on top of Android 17.
A fresh look and new design language
The biggest shift this time is expected in how the phone looks and feels. Vivo has worked on new materials, improved lighting effects and liquid-style animations designed to make the whole interface feel smoother and lighter. New Liquid Themes are also being added for the lock screen, giving users more ways to personalise their device. Alongside this, a fresh sticker library will be available for use across the entire system. Vivo is also introducing a feature called Atomic Workbench, built specifically for traditional candybar-style smartphones, aimed at giving users new ways to manage multiple tasks and interact with their device.
Bold claims on performance gains
Vivo has upgraded its Blue River Smooth Engine, which the company says will directly boost computing, storage and display related tasks. According to the company, graphics rendering could improve by as much as 14 percent, while the response speed of page switching may get up to 19 percent faster. App launch speed is also claimed to improve by around 12 percent. Power consumption during tasks like UI animations and screen rendering is expected to drop by nearly 20 percent. Vivo says it has also refined memory management and data processing, allowing multiple types of data to be handled more quickly at the same time.
Changes coming to storage and display
OriginOS 7 will include Storage Compression 2.0. Vivo claims that on a phone with 256GB of storage, this technology could free up close to 20GB of additional usable space, meaning users could store more photos, videos and apps without losing capacity elsewhere. On the display side, a Virtual Graphic Card 4.0 is being introduced to help run liquid-style visual effects more smoothly. The company claims this keeps visual quality intact while easing the extra load placed on the CPU and GPU.
Exactly which Vivo phones will get OriginOS 7, and when the rollout will begin, is expected to be revealed at the VDC event on September 16.
