A deeply tragic and shocking incident has come to light from the Govindpuri Extension area under the Kalkaji police station jurisdiction in Delhi. Renowned musician Ravi Day was found dead inside his rented accommodation, with his body lying unattended in the locked room for nearly five days. The grim reality only came to the surface when a strong, foul odor started emanating from the house, prompting anxious neighbors to alert the local authorities. Acting swiftly on the complaint, a police team arrived at the spot, broke open the locked entrance, and retrieved the remains.
Ravi Day was living by himself in this rented dwelling in Govindpuri Extension. In the days following his demise, none of his family members or relatives checked up on him. Due to the prolonged duration, the body had begun to decompose extensively, and maggots had started infesting the remains. Responding to the alert raised by neighbors regarding the stench, the police entered the premises on August 14. The authorities secured the body and transferred it for a post-mortem examination, which was successfully conducted on August 16 after completing the necessary legal formalities.
Remains Handed Over to Sons After Counseling
According to information gathered during the investigation, the sons initially informed the police that they shared no ties with their father and even refused to claim the body. However, following persistent persuasion and counseling by police officials, the relatives eventually relented and stepped forward. Once the post-mortem procedures concluded, the mortal remains were handed over to his sons. The police are currently looking into all aspects of the case. Initial inquiries point toward a natural death, though the exact cause will be definitively established once the official post-mortem report is released.
A similarly heart-wrenching episode had previously emerged from Sonipat, where an elderly resident living in an ashram passed away, and none of his three daughters turned up to perform his final rites. The matter drew widespread attention after a video went viral showing one of the daughters attending the cremation ceremony virtually through a video call.
