Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently visited the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) in Hyderabad to personally inquire about the health of the veteran Telugu actor and senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, Nandamuri Balakrishna. The celebrated Tollywood star had recently undergone a significant surgical procedure following a severe injury he sustained during an active film schedule. During his visit to the medical facility, the Chief Minister spent time interacting with the recovering actor and held detailed discussions with the medical team to evaluate his post-operative care, current condition, and the planned recovery trajectory.
Set Accident and Emergency Airlift to Hyderabad
The unfortunate incident took place on July 21 in Rajahmundry, where Nandamuri Balakrishna was participating in the shooting of his upcoming cinematic project. While executing a scene on the set, he suffered a sudden and painful blow to his knee. Although immediate first aid was administered on location, the intensity of the injury required advanced clinical intervention. Recognizing the severity of his condition, medical professionals advised immediate transfer. Consequently, on July 22, the veteran actor was flown from Rajahmundry to Hyderabad using a specialized air ambulance. Upon landing, he was rushed to the AIG hospital where a dedicated panel of medical specialists immediately initiated detailed diagnostic procedures.
Medical Assessment and a Successful Three-Hour Surgery
The clinical examinations conducted by the diagnostic team revealed a severe tear in the quadriceps tendon of his left leg. This particular tendon plays a critical physiological role as it connects the prominent thigh muscle directly to the kneecap. Additionally, the impact had also caused substantial damage to the surrounding supporting tissues on both sides of the knee. After reviewing the test reports, the orthopedic and surgical experts concluded that surgical reconstruction was the safest and most effective path to ensure complete recovery and long-term joint stability. On July 23, the actor underwent a comprehensive surgical procedure that lasted for approximately three hours. According to the subsequent medical bulletin issued by the hospital, the surgery was entirely successful. Balakrishna remains in stable condition and is being kept under careful post-operative observation as doctors monitor his healing progress.
Family and Political Allies Express Support
As a highly respected figure spanning both the Telugu film industry and the regional political landscape, Nandamuri Balakrishna's injury prompted widespread concern across the state. Beyond his role as a senior leader in the TDP, he also shares close familial ties with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. During his hospital visit on Sunday, Naidu expressed his solidarity and discussed the next steps in physical rehabilitation with the attending doctors. Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resources Development, Information Technology, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, had also reached out to the actor over the phone, wishing him a rapid recuperation and expressing his support during this recovery phase.
