Amid intensifying student protests over recruitment examinations in Jharkhand, actress Kunickaa Sadanand arrived at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday to extend support to the demonstrating candidates. The stadium has become the epicenter of an ongoing strike where aspirants are raising voices against alleged irregularities in competitive tests. During her visit, Sadanand interacted with protesting students, heard their grievances, and appealed to the state administration to address the concerns of the youth seriously.
Kunickaa Sadanand Calls for Government Accountability
Addressing the gathering at the protest site, Kunickaa Sadanand emphasized that the state government must adopt a transparent and responsible posture regarding recruitment procedures. She asserted that seeking job opportunities is a fundamental right of the youth and urged policymakers to engage in open dialogue. As seen in a video posted on X, she stated, "My message is to the government: please be transparent, accountable, and listen to these children."
While backing the demands for fairness, Sadanand also counselled the protesting candidates to remain pragmatic. She noted that systemic issues persisting over long periods cannot be resolved overnight and asked students to grant the administration reasonable time. However, she strongly advised the demonstrators to secure a written commitment from officials rather than relying on verbal assurances to guarantee concrete action.
Deteriorating Health Conditions of Hunger Strikers
The situation at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium remains critical as several aspirants continue their hunger strike. Demonstrating student Prem Nayak highlighted that the overall agitation has reached its 23rd day, while his personal fast entered its 13th day. Nayak expressed deep concern over his failing health, reporting severe fever and physical weakness while alleging government neglect toward their plight.
Nayak further claimed that the administration is attempting to suppress the protest movement. He mentioned that another key protest leader, Devendra Nath Mahato, was taken for medical treatment due to health complications but was subsequently prevented by authorities from returning to the demonstration venue.
CM Residence Gherao Announced for August 20
Aspirants across Jharkhand have been protesting against alleged discrepancies in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The core demand of the agitation remains an independent CBI probe into the conduct of these exams. To register their protest, candidates previously organized a Tiranga Yatra on August 15.
Escalating their agitation, the protesting students have announced plans to march toward and gherao the official residence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren on August 20. The candidates are demanding administrative accountability and calling for the Chief Minister's resignation over the recruitment controversies.
