The arrival of the auspicious month of Sawan has triggered an intense shopping rush for traditional festive attire, with women displaying immense enthusiasm for green clothing. Responding to this seasonal spike in interest, textile manufacturers and weavers in Bhagalpur have rolled out more than 50 distinct varieties of green sarees. The bustling markets of the famous weaving centre are currently packed with vibrant displays catering to traditional rituals as well as contemporary festive fashion.
Expanding Beyond Traditional Silk to Modern Weaves
Widely celebrated across the nation as Silk City, Bhagalpur has evolved far beyond its signature pure silk manufacturing. Local weaving units and merchant establishments now produce and trade in an extensive range of textiles. Skilled weavers are crafting exquisite patterns across cotton and linen along with classic silk fabrics. While Bhagalpur continues to hold premier status for pure silk craftsmanship, this diversification into multiple base textiles has broadened its market reach significantly.
Rich Variety Spanning Kanjivaram Work to Folk Art Prints
Providing details on this season's design range, silk trader Sanjeev Kumar explained that the inventory covers multiple stylistic preferences and occasions. The market features pure silk varieties decorated with intricate Kanjivaram detailing, dedicated bridal sarees, doli-themed ceremonial designs, and ornate stone-work pieces. Cultural art forms also feature heavily on the fabric, including traditional Manjusha print sarees and authentic Madhubani print designs. In addition to heritage handcrafts, modern digitally printed sarees are available in abundance.
Budget-Friendly Pricing and Rs 3 Crore Regional Orders
Accessibility remains a core focus of the Bhagalpur textile market this season, with price points designed to fit every budget. Sanjeev Kumar stated that saree rates start from an affordable Rs 500 and go up to Rs 12,000 for exclusive designer pieces. The festive demand has created substantial commercial turnover, with wholesale buyers from Bihar and West Bengal placing orders valued at around Rs 3 crore. Sawan consistently drives a dramatic spike in commercial trade, generating vital business for local weaving communities.
