Disney Settlement: YouTube TV Subscribers May Qualify for a Payout

If you paid for YouTube TV within the last seven years, you might be entitled to a cash payment following a $50 million settlement involving Disney. Learn who qualifies and how to submit your claim before the deadline.

If you have been a subscriber to YouTube TV at any point over the last seven years, you may be eligible to receive a portion of a $50 million settlement reached by Disney. The settlement stems from allegations of antitrust violations, which argued that Disney’s market control unfairly pushed up the costs of live TV streaming services for consumers on platforms like YouTube TV and DirecTV. Keep a close watch on your physical mailbox and email inbox for an official settlement notice; those who are eligible can submit a claim for payment between now and September 8, 2026.

The Core of the Disney Settlement

The origins of this settlement trace back to a 2022 class action lawsuit initiated by YouTube TV users. The plaintiffs alleged that Disney’s substantial influence over major networks like ESPN and Hulu compelled streaming providers, particularly those offering live television, to increase their subscription prices. The legal complaint highlights that the agreements between Google and Disney led to a massive price surge for YouTube TV’s base package, which jumped from $35 to $65—a near 100% increase. While Disney has agreed to settle the matter to avoid further litigation, the final approval remains pending, with a court hearing currently scheduled for January 14, 2027.

Eligibility Criteria for Payouts

The settlement creates two distinct classes for individuals who can receive cash payments. The first group includes YouTube TV subscribers who maintained a subscription between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026. The second group covers customers of DirecTV’s live streaming services (specifically those branded as DirecTV Stream, DirecTV Now, or AT&T TV Now) who were active subscribers between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026.

While the exact amount any individual will receive is not yet finalized, your location during the settlement period is a critical factor in the distribution process. The terms of the agreement stipulate that 90% of the settlement fund will be distributed to class members who resided in any of the following states or territories between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Guam, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The remaining 10% of the funds will be allocated to subscribers in all other remaining states. If you were subscribed to both services, you may be eligible for a payout for each, though you are only required to file a single claim form. Because the $50 million total is being divided among a very large group of subscribers over a seven-year timeframe, individual payouts are expected to be modest.

Steps to Submit a Claim

If you fall into one of the designated settlement classes, you can submit your claim form through the official online portal. To access the portal, you will need the unique ID and PIN provided in your settlement notice. Upon logging in, you will be required to provide personal details, verify your subscription history for YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream, confirm your state of residence, and select a preferred electronic payment method to avoid receiving a paper check. If you have not received a notice but believe you qualify, you can reach out to the administrator directly via email at info@OnlineTVSettlement.com. Alternatively, a PDF version of the form is available to be printed and mailed. All claims must be submitted online or postmarked by September 8, 2026. The mailing address for claims is: Biddle v. Disney, Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 4720, Portland, OR 97208-4720.

What this means for you

Across India: This legal settlement is specific to users in the United States and does not impact YouTube TV subscribers residing in India.

Questions & Answers

Who is eligible for the Disney settlement payout?
Customers who subscribed to YouTube TV or DirecTV streaming services between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026, may be eligible for a payout.
Do I need to submit separate claim forms for each service?
No, if you had subscriptions to both services, you may receive payment for each, but you only need to submit a single claim form.
What is the deadline to submit a claim?
Claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by September 8, 2026.
Should I expect a large payout from this settlement?
No, given that $50 million is being split among a vast group of subscribers over seven years, the individual payouts are likely to be small.
