Confronting severe personal debt and strict judicial deadlines, Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has stepped forward to assist a distressed colleague. Despite dealing with ongoing litigation over unpaid liabilities, the comedian-actor turned to the public to raise crucial funds for the medical expenses of actor Gauri Shankar's wife.
A Critical Health Crisis and a Call for Assistance
Gauri Shankar, an experienced performer known for his work in theatre, television dramas, and stage productions, is currently dealing with an immense family catastrophe. His wife has remained admitted in a medical facility for the past month, undergoing intensive care for an aggressive kidney ailment. The prolonged hospitalization and specialized procedures have imposed an overwhelming financial burden on his household.
In an emotional clip published by Gauri Shankar, Rajpal Yadav spoke warmly of their long-standing professional bond and companionship. Highlighting the extreme hardship his colleague is enduring, the actor requested viewers to contribute whatever they could afford to alleviate the mounting hospital bills. The public fundraiser aims to gather a total sum of 25 lakh rupees, out of which 1,22,562 rupees has been accumulated so far.
Entertainment Peers Rally to Provide Support
Rajpal Yadav is not the lone figure from the entertainment sector attempting to rescue Gauri Shankar's family. Kamlesh Sawant, widely recognized for his portrayal of Inspector Gaitonde in the blockbuster thriller Drishyam, has also mobilized efforts to amplify the fundraising drive. Furthermore, Rohitashv Gour, a familiar face from the popular television comedy Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai, published a dedicated appeal across social platforms, encouraging fans to donate generously toward the costly medical treatment.
The Shadow of Yadav's Own Ongoing Cheque Bounce Litigation
The plea for financial generosity comes even as Rajpal Yadav navigates severe personal courtroom strife. His legal entanglements trace back to the production and release of his 2012 directorial project titled Ata Pata Lapata. To fund the theatrical venture, financial backing amounting to 5 crore rupees had been secured from Murli Projects Private Limited. In 2013, seven cheques totaling an aggregate value of 1.05 crore rupees were presented to settle the dues, all of which subsequently bounced.
The Delhi High Court upheld his conviction in the cheque bounce matter, awarding him a three-month prison sentence alongside monetary penalties. The contentious dispute is presently under scrutiny at the Supreme Court of India. During recent proceedings, the bench delivered stern observations regarding the unpaid obligations, granting a final reprieve to clear the dues. The apex court has directed Rajpal Yadav to deposit an amount of 2 crore rupees by a definitive cut-off date of 13 October 2026.
