The director noted that finding the right face for the negative role was difficult because several established actors turned down the offer. He approached multiple stars for the villainous part, but most of them refused. Balancing market value, commercial viability, and script requirements always plays a crucial role during the casting phase.
An Accidental Discussion on Set
The director shared that while he was busy shooting the film Bhoot Bangla with Akshay Kumar, he casually mentioned his casting dilemma to the actor. He told Akshay that he was actively searching for someone to play a psycho character, but many people were hesitant to take it on. Without missing a beat, Akshay immediately volunteered and said he would do it. This spontaneous reaction came as a pleasant surprise to the filmmaker, who had not initially considered him for that specific part.

Priyadarshan admitted that once Akshay agreed, he realized this would give the audience a completely different side of the actor that they had never witnessed before. The filmmaker mentioned that Akshay had often expressed a desire in the past to play a psychological thriller role. Looking back at the entire process, Priyadarshan clarified that casting Saif and Akshay together was never meticulously planned from day one, but rather fell into place purely by chance.
