A fascinating box office battle is currently unfolding in theaters between the films of two major superstars. On one side stands Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3, which has held its ground in cinemas for three weeks. On the other side is Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which has made a massive impact worldwide in just eight days of its release. The collection figures for both films have come to light, revealing a striking difference between their performances. Interestingly, while Drishyam 3 has completed 21 days at the box office, Jailer 2 has surged ahead in earnings despite a much shorter theatrical run. The big question now is which of these two movies holds the stronger position, and whether Ajay Devgn's film can manage to counter Rajinikanth's movie in the coming days as the numbers reveal a compelling trend.
Drishyam 3 Box Office Journey and Pace
Ajay Devgn's prominent film has completed three full weeks in theaters. Although the movie enjoyed stellar collections during its opening week, its daily earnings have experienced fluctuations lately. According to industry data, the film brought in a net collection of 2.10 crore rupees in India on October 22. This brings its domestic net earnings to a total of 361.85 crore rupees. The film's gross collection within India is reported at 433.52 crore rupees. When combined with the 129.50 crore rupees collected from overseas markets, its total worldwide earnings stand at 563.02 crore rupees.
Analyzing the Three-Week Earnings Breakdown
To fully understand the earnings of Drishyam 3, examining its weekly figures is essential. The movie raked in 245.50 crore rupees in net collections during its first week. However, earnings dropped to 87.50 crore rupees in the second week. Meanwhile, the third week has recorded earnings of 28.85 crore rupees so far. These numbers indicate that while the film received immense support from audiences initially, its momentum in theaters has slowed down considerably compared to its opening days. During the third week, the film collected 3.10 crore rupees on Friday, which rose to 5 crore rupees on Saturday, and reached 6.25 crore rupees on Sunday. Monday's collection stood at 3.50 crore rupees, followed by another jump to 6.25 crore rupees on Tuesday. Wednesday saw a dip to 2.65 crore rupees, while Thursday brought in 2.10 crore rupees, marking two consecutive days of declining numbers.
The Plot of Vijay Salgaonkar and Fresh Challenges
The storyline of the film revolves around Vijay Salgaonkar, who previously outsmarted the law to protect his family. However, events from the past begin to catch up with him once again. This time, the situation involves more than just concealing old secrets, bringing elements of vengeance and the challenge posed by a new police officer into play.
Jailer 2 Makes a Massive Splash
Conversely, Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has achieved massive box office numbers since its release in theaters on October 15. According to box office trackers, the film earned a net collection of 17.15 crore rupees in India on its eighth day. This pushed its total net earnings within the country to 334.35 crore rupees. The domestic gross collection stands at 391.55 crore rupees, alongside 214.50 crore rupees from international territories. Based on these figures, the film's total worldwide gross collection has climbed to 606.05 crore rupees.
Day Eight Dip and Overall Strong Standing
Even though the film experienced a drop in earnings on its eighth day, its overall business during the first eight days remains exceptionally high. Having earned 28.15 crore rupees on Wednesday, the Thursday collection dropped to 17.15 crore rupees, representing a decline of roughly 39.1 percent in a single day. Despite this dip, the cumulative business for the opening week and a half has been substantial. The film is drawing the largest audiences in the Tamil language. Data from October 22 indicates that the Tamil version generated a net collection of 10.75 crore rupees, while the Telugu version brought in 3.60 crore rupees, and the Hindi version added 2.40 crore rupees. The Kannada version contributed 40 lakh rupees, highlighting that the Tamil market holds the largest share of the movie's earnings.
Cast and Creative Team
In the film, Rajinikanth portrays a retired jailer named Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. His peaceful life is disrupted when a new threat originating from the criminal underworld closes in on his family. The movie is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, with a musical score composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The stellar ensemble cast also features Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, and Jackie Shroff.
