Expressing his disbelief on stage, Ryan Gosling admitted to the roaring crowd that he had wanted to play the character for a very long time, noting that such a project required a specific directorial vision. It was soon confirmed that Shawn Levy, who directed Deadpool & Wolverine for Marvel Studios and recently collaborated with Gosling on the upcoming Star Wars feature Starfighter, would helm the project.

While past Comic-Con presentations have occasionally featured announcements that ultimately stalled, such as the unmade Inhumans project or Mahershala Ali's delayed Blade film, Kevin Feige assured fans that this Ghost Rider film is definitely happening and is scheduled for release in 2028. This scheduling means there will be no traditional MCU standalone film wedged between Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Discussing the strategic shift, Feige emphasized a renewed focus on overall quality rather than spreading resources too thin across an overwhelming quantity of releases. By anchoring the schedule around the major Avengers milestones and setting up the slate for 2028, Marvel has officially pulled back the curtain on Ghost Rider and the third Black Panther film.

Feige hinted that the post-Secret Wars MCU landscape could hold even more surprises for 2028, but the confirmed lineup already offers plenty of anticipation, pairing the traditional heavy-hitting drama of Black Panther III with David Jonsson's fresh presence and the explosive cinematic debut of the new Spirit of Vengeance.
Although Nicolas Cage previously starred in non-MCU iterations and the character surfaced in television projects, the involvement of Gosling and Levy suggests a massive production scale.
