Navi Mumbai Airport Announces Major Relief for International Flights With Full Year of Zero Landing Fees

Aviation regulator AERA has approved a waiver on landing charges for international flights operating from the Navi Mumbai International Airport, offering complete fee exemption for the first year.

In a decisive move aimed at reducing air traffic congestion in Mumbai and establishing Navi Mumbai as a major global aviation connectivity hub, airlines operating international flights from the newly developed facility will receive substantial financial relief on landing charges. The airport tariff regulator AERA has officially approved exemptions on landing fees for international services operating out of the facility.

Structure of Landing Fee Waivers

According to the directives issued by AERA, brand-new short-haul and long-haul international flights commencing operations from the Navi Mumbai Airport will enjoy a complete waiver on landing charges for the entire first year. This means airlines will not be required to pay any landing fees for bringing down their aircraft on these routes. Short-haul routes are defined as those covering distances up to 5,000 kilometers, while long-haul routes encompass distances exceeding 5,000 kilometers. Moving into the second year, these services will receive a 50 percent discount on landing charges. Additionally, long-haul international services will benefit from a 25 percent discount during their third year of operations.

Additional Flights and Cargo Benefits

The relief measures extend beyond brand-new international services, also covering airlines that introduce extra flights on existing international routes. During the first year, additional short-haul flights will receive a 50 percent discount on landing charges, whereas additional long-haul flights will enjoy a 75 percent concession. Furthermore, international cargo and freighter services have received a major boost. Foreign freighter aircraft will be granted a remarkable 90 percent discount on landing charges in the first year, followed by a 50 percent discount in the second year.

Distinct Rules Separating It From Mumbai Airport

The most significant shift in this policy involves route eligibility criteria. Previously, concession rules were applied on the basis of entirely new routes across the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region or MMR. This meant that any international route already operating out of the main Mumbai Airport was ineligible for tariff concessions at the Navi Mumbai Airport. The framework has now been revised. Any international route originating from the Navi Mumbai Airport will qualify for landing charge concessions, regardless of whether that exact same route is already operational from the primary Mumbai Airport.

Push to Expand Global Connectivity

AERA approved modifications to the airport variable traffic plan through an order dated September 8, designed specifically to encourage airlines to launch and sustain new international services from Navi Mumbai. For context, the Navi Mumbai International Airport was inaugurated on October 8, 2025, with commercial operations officially commencing on December 25, 2025. International flight operations were inaugurated on July 15 with an Air India Express service heading to Abu Dhabi. With this substantial relief on landing charges, the airport anticipates a steady rise in the volume of international carriers and global routes connecting the region.
