Ahead of a planned demonstration in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, several leaders associated with the 'Cockroach Janata Party' were taken into custody by authorities. In the wake of these detentions, actor Ranvir Shorey publicly weighed in on the controversy, asserting that protestors should utilize courts and established democratic institutions rather than taking their grievances to the streets. His comments follow criticism from various film personalities, including Huma Qeshri, Sonakshi Sinha, and Vijay Varma, who had previously questioned how law enforcement handled the unfolding situation.
Ranvir Shorey Calls Street Protests a Threat to Democratic Order
Over the weekend, the actor shared a video on X featuring CJP spokesperson Saurabh Das urging citizens to occupy the streets and refuse to back down. Reacting directly to that footage, the actor posted that true strength belongs in parliament and ballot boxes rather than public thoroughfares, adding that anyone dissatisfied with official channels should approach the judiciary. He remarked that occupying roads and holding public infrastructure hostage amounts to the true destruction of democracy.
Debating Anarchy and Legal Remedies
Expanding on his viewpoint, the actor stated that protests in a healthy democracy ought to serve as an absolute last resort rather than a means to bypass legislative and judicial boundaries. He argued that the fundamental right to dissent should not translate into continuous disruptions that paralyze everyday life for the rest of society. When a social media user suggested that the judicial leadership had also been impacted by the events, the actor responded with sarcasm, noting a growing list of institutions allegedly compromised while praising only those who lose elections and protest with questionable funding.
Kangana Ranaut Slams Protest Leadership
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut used strong language to characterize the CJP leadership, describing them as subversive elements attempting to destabilize the nation. She claimed that ordinary citizens would ultimately step forward to hold such forces accountable. This public exchange highlights a deep division within public commentary regarding the limits of protest and the responsibilities of civic institutions.
