A devastating incident involving alleged severe negligence by the electricity department has shattered a family in Dhantauri village, located within the Shahbad region of Kurukshetra, Haryana. The incident occurred when a high-voltage current surge resulted in the deaths of two brothers, while a third family member remains in critical condition fighting for his life.
Details of the Incident
According to the reports, an unexpected fault in the power lines or electrical equipment led to a massive high-voltage current exposure. The victims, identified as Balwinder, his brother Nathi Ram, and Nathi Ram’s son Naresh Kumar, were caught in the surge. The impact was so severe that all three sustained critical burns on the spot. They were rushed to Agarwal Hospital in Kurukshetra in a grave condition. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, both brothers, Balwinder and Nathi Ram, could not be saved and were pronounced dead.
Public Outrage and Allegations
The tragedy has sparked intense anger among the villagers of Dhantauri, who hold the electricity department directly responsible for the catastrophe. Residents claim that the department exhibited gross negligence regarding the infrastructure. It has been reported that a 11,000-volt power line passes just outside the houses in the village, and the department had been informed multiple times about the hazardous condition of the lines and existing faults. A local resident, Sohanlal, stated that had the department acted upon these warnings and addressed the sagging wires or faults in time, these two brothers would still be alive today.
Questions Over Administrative Action
Villagers expressed frustration, noting that the electricity department is only likely to initiate hasty, performative action now that two lives have already been lost. The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the entire region, with community members demanding strict legal action against the responsible officials. At present, Naresh Kumar is battling for his life in the hospital, and the entire village is in a state of shock following this irreparable loss.
