Commuters travelling between Greater Faridabad and Gurugram are set to gain a significant infrastructure upgrade aimed at drastically cutting travel times. Authorities are preparing to construct an approximately 7-kilometre-long double-decker elevated road that will physically integrate both road and rapid rail transport. Under the proposed blueprint, passenger and commercial motor vehicles will occupy the lower level of the structure, while the upper deck will host the Namo Bharat rapid transit rail system. Formal tendering for one key route of this ambitious East-West project is scheduled to open in the coming week.
Missing Direct Road Links Between East and West Faridabad
At present, the eastern zone of Greater Faridabad lacks a continuous direct road connection to the outer boundary of Sainik Colony within the NIT region. This geographical fragmentation is largely caused by the central presence of a major national highway and active railway lines running through the territory, leaving sectors such as Sector 12 and adjoining Greater Faridabad divided across three segregated zones. Consequently, residents residing in NIT who need to reach Sector 12 or Old Faridabad are currently compelled to navigate congested bottleneck passages across the Neelam and Bata railway overbridges, where heavy peak-hour vehicular volume frequently leads to severe gridlock.
East-West Corridor Linking with Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
To eliminate these chronic bottlenecks, rapid execution of the East-West elevated structure is anticipated. The elevated alignment will chart a path originating through Sainik Colony and interface directly with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway network. Simultaneously, regional transit planners designed the Namo Bharat rapid rail network to offer swift, seamless travel between multiple urban nodes across the NCR. By stacking rapid transit tracks atop dedicated highway lanes over a single 7-kilometre footprint, the project aims to solve multiple cross-city transport bottlenecks in one continuous corridor.
Two-Lane Service Road Under Construction Along Neelam-BK Road
Alongside the grand elevated corridor plan, short-term relief is also underway for motorists navigating the heavily patronized Neelam-BK Road in Faridabad. FMDA has initiated on-ground civil construction to widen the accompanying single-track service road into a full two-lane passage. Departmental authorities have instituted a strict one-week target window to conclude the widening operations. Once these civil works wrap up within the week, the expanded corridor will be immediately opened to regular vehicular traffic.
New Traffic Bypass for Commuters Heading to Market Number 1
Under the existing road circulation pattern, vehicles travelling from Neelam Chowk towards destinations like Market Number 1 must execute turns at BK Chowk. That junction frequently suffers from intense congestion caused by clusters of stationed auto-rickshaws encroaching upon traffic lanes. With the commissioning of the widened parallel service track, vehicles arriving from Neelam will be able to divert directly onto the dedicated service lane near the police post at the intersection. This detour will allow motorists to bypass the bottleneck at BK Chowk entirely and reach their local commercial destinations smoothly.
