Gurugram got a new judicial landmark on Sunday when Chief Justice of India Surya Kant inaugurated the city's 'Tower of Justice' complex, telling the gathering that as the nature of court cases keeps evolving, the justice delivery system itself must evolve too.
Senior leaders join the inauguration
According to an official statement, the ceremony was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.
A push for unified district court complexes across Haryana
CJI Surya Kant used the occasion to push for unified district court complexes across Haryana, modelled on Uttar Pradesh. He argued that a larger number of courts would boost judicial capacity, particularly helping speed up commercial disputes and cheque bounce cases.
55 courtrooms, arbitration centre planned
The new building houses 55 modern courtrooms, up from 45 in the earlier facility, the statement said. The complex also comes with video-conferencing facilities and judicial record rooms, and an international arbitration centre is proposed under the High Court's supervision.
Foundation laid digitally for two Nuh courts
Justice Surya Kant said the Tower of Justice creates the right environment for the administration of justice. During the same event, he digitally laid the foundation stone for judicial complexes at Tauru and Punhana in Nuh district.
The 2017 coincidence
Sharing a personal coincidence, Justice Surya Kant recalled that back in 2017, when he was a judge at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, he had laid the foundation stone for the same Tower of Justice in Gurugram, and years later he ended up inaugurating it himself. He expressed confidence that the complex, built on seven acres of land, would become a symbol of justice for every citizen.
CM Saini calls it a symbol of public trust
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the judicial complex reflects the dignity of the Constitution and citizens' unwavering faith in the justice system. "Setting up a modern judicial complex in such a city will make the justice delivery system stronger and better," he said. The Chief Minister also noted the same coincidence, that the building whose foundation Justice Surya Kant laid in 2017 as a Punjab and Haryana High Court judge was inaugurated by him on Sunday too.
