Traffic enforcement officials in Gurugram have impounded a motorcycle after discovering that its owner had accumulated 43 pending traffic violation challans amounting to Rs 1.94 lakh in unpaid fines. The action was taken during a routine checking drive conducted at Wazirabad Chowk when police personnel stopped the two-wheeler rider and requested the vehicle documentation, which the rider failed to produce.
Vehicle Impoundment and Motor Vehicles Act Violations
The checking drive took place on August 17 as part of regular traffic surveillance in the area. When police officers requested the rider to present valid papers including registration and insurance, no documents could be provided. Subsequent verification of the motorcycle's registration details against the traffic database revealed a series of violations under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
According to traffic officials, the majority of the 43 pending challans were issued for offenses such as riding without a helmet, operating the vehicle without valid insurance coverage, and lacking a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP). Additional violations of general traffic regulations were also registered against the vehicle. Due to the massive accumulated fine of Rs 1,94,000 and the high volume of pending challans, police seized the motorcycle and towed it to a designated impound lot.
Police Advisory and Previous High-Value Seizures
A senior traffic police officer stated that special drives are currently underway across Gurugram targeting habitual traffic offenders and vehicle owners who have ignored long-pending unpaid fines. Enforcement authorities have urged all motorists to strictly abide by traffic rules, maintain updated essential documents such as valid insurance and pollution under control (PUC) certificates, and settle outstanding challans promptly to avoid strict legal action.
This enforcement action follows a similar high-value seizure recently executed by Gurugram Police, where officers impounded a scooty that had accumulated 96 pending challans with unpaid fines totaling Rs 10 lakh. Police reiterated that rigorous monitoring will continue to ensure strict adherence to road safety norms.
