A specialized team from the Gurugram Traffic Police was conducting standard vehicle inspections at the busy Rajiv Chowk intersection on Tuesday. During the operation, officers spotted a two-wheeler being driven recklessly on the wrong side of traffic flow. The rider was also not wearing a helmet. Officers immediately flagged down the vehicle and asked the driver to produce mandatory documents, including the vehicle registration certificate and insurance policy. However, the driver was unable to present any paperwork on the spot.
Database Record Reveals 96 Pending E-Challans
Upon entering the scooter registration details into the electronic database, traffic officials were shocked to find a massive history of repeated traffic offenses. The vehicle was flagged for 96 pending e-challans issued under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. According to senior traffic police officials, none of these penalties had been settled, resulting in a cumulative pending fine amount of 10 lakh rupees.
Camera Enforcement vs Manual Inspection Breakdown
Elaborating on the nature of the offenses, senior traffic officers specified that out of the 96 recorded violations, only 1 e-challan was issued manually using a handheld traffic ticketing device. The remaining 95 violations were automatically generated by the city's network of camera-based traffic enforcement systems over time. These automated surveillance cameras had repeatedly captured the scooter committing traffic infractions across Gurugram, which accumulated into the record fine without being cleared by the owner.
Rider Identity and Ownership Details Disclosed
During police questioning, the rider was identified as Prashant, an employee at a medical store located near Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. Further verification revealed that the 2017 model scooter is registered under the name of Deepika, who is the sister of an individual named Nishant. Traffic police officially impounded the vehicle on the spot and reiterated that strict enforcement actions under the Motor Vehicles Act will continue against vehicle owners who persistently fail to clear pending traffic fines.
