A gruesome incident in Ramdev Colony in Haryana's Karnal district has left the neighbourhood in shock. Police said a man, allegedly heavily intoxicated with alcohol, attacked his wife Sita with knives late at night while she was fast asleep alongside her daughters. Sita died on the spot from the attack.
Panic Breaks Out as Daughter Narrowly Escapes
After attacking his wife, the accused husband also tried to attack one of his daughters, but she managed to escape unhurt. He then fled the house immediately after the attack. The commotion inside the house drew neighbours to the scene, and panic quickly spread through the colony.
Daughter Jyoti Recounts the Horror
Sita's daughter Jyoti said the entire episode unfolded so suddenly that nobody in the family got a chance to react. Everyone was asleep at the time. She woke up after hearing the commotion when her sister was attacked, and found her mother lying on the ground, drenched in blood. Jyoti said her father frequently got drunk and created scenes at home, and the fights sometimes turned violent. Family members had tried to counsel him several times, but it never made a difference. After the attack, the same father fled the house.
Sita Ran the Household Alone While Her Husband Drank
Relatives who reached the spot alleged that Sita alone bore the responsibility of running the household. She worked as a labourer to support the entire family, while her husband was addicted to alcohol and did not do any work. This, they said, was the reason disputes broke out in the house almost every day, with the situation worsening over time.
Relatives Travel from Meerut, Demand a Fair Probe
As news of the killing spread, relatives travelled from Meerut to Karnal and broke down in grief upon reaching the spot. Some relatives raised the possibility that someone else could also have played a role in the murder, and demanded that the case be investigated impartially so the complete truth comes out.
Police Say Sharp Weapon Used to Strike Her on the Head
Karnal City police station officers reached the spot as soon as they were informed and began their investigation. Investigating officer Rajesh Kumar said the preliminary probe found that the accused husband struck his wife on the head with a sharp weapon, killing her.
Manhunt Underway for the Fugitive Accused
A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by relatives. The body was handed over to the family after a post mortem examination. Multiple police teams are conducting raids at various locations in an effort to track down and arrest the accused, who remains on the run.
