A district court in Sonipat, Haryana, has delivered a significant judgment in the Jagdish murder case, sentencing six members of a single family to life imprisonment. Additional District and Sessions Judge Subhash Chandra Sirohi found all six accused guilty following a lengthy trial. Alongside the prison terms, the court imposed monetary fines on the convicts, ordering that a major portion of the penalty amount be handed over to the deceased man's family as financial relief. The verdict brings legal closure to the victim's family nearly 5 years after the fatal attack.
Fatal Ambush While En Route to the Police Station
The case dates back to 3 June 2021 in Kalupur village, where a minor disagreement over cow dung cakes broke out between two neighboring households. The initial argument quickly escalated into a heated confrontation. As the victimized family set out toward the local police station to lodge an official complaint, the accused group intercepted them on the road. Armed with lethal weapons including axes, wooden sticks, and iron pipes, the assailants launched a brutal physical assault on the family. Jagdish, the husband of complainant Santra, suffered catastrophic injuries during the attack and subsequently lost his life.
Court Rulings, Legal Sections, and Financial Penalties
Based on physical evidence and testimony, the court convicted Suresh, Santro, Amit, Sumit, Ramesh, and Sikander of murder and criminal conspiracy. Judge Subhash Chandra Sirohi sentenced all six individuals under Sections 120B and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to life imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 50,000 each. Additionally, under IPC Section 148, the convicts were handed a 1-year jail sentence and a Rs 2,500 fine each, while IPC Section 149 attracted a 6-month sentence and a Rs 1,000 fine per convict. The court stipulated that out of the total fine collected from the convicts, an amount of Rs 1,50,000 would be awarded directly to the family of the deceased victim.

Public Prosecutor Roshni Duhan represented the prosecution during the trial and detailed how a minor neighborhood dispute over cow dung cakes led to the violent loss of a human life. She pointed out that the perpetrators launched a targeted attack against Jagdish and his relatives. Over the course of the judicial proceedings, a total of 70 witnesses testified before the court. Their statements proved pivotal in securing convictions under three separate statutory provisions, ensuring accountability for the brutal murder.
