Tension gripped Karnal in Haryana after the body of suspended electricity department superintending engineer Getu Ram Tanwar was recovered from inside a car. The tragic discovery came on the exact day of his retirement from government service, sending shockwaves through the local community and his department. Local police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information, taking the body into custody to initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Prior to this incident, Getu Ram Tanwar was posted as a superintending engineer in the electricity department office located in Sonipat. Months ago, a video featuring him surfaced on social media platforms, sparking immense controversy. In that viral clip, he was heard making objectionable remarks regarding a specific community, stating that wherever a Jat and a buffalo calf are found, he would beat them with a stick. Following the massive backlash, authorities suspended him from service and initiated strict administrative action.
Amid the escalating controversy, police registered a case against him under Section 196(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, leading to his arrest. Subsequent legal efforts to secure bail from the High Court did not yield relief, keeping him entangled in legal battles. Family members noted that ever since his suspension, the engineer had been under severe mental stress and deeply disturbed by the ongoing fallout from the controversy.
Shedding light on his movements, his daughter stated that he left the house at seven in the morning. She claimed that the widely circulated video was tampered with and manipulated through editing before being uploaded online. Pointing fingers at four specific individuals, the daughter alleged they were directly responsible for the ordeal and tragedy her father faced, maintaining that he never intended to demean any community. According to the family, his car was parked near DAV School where he was found resting inside. Police are currently recording formal complaints from the family and probing every angle to ascertain the exact cause of death.
