Car got wedged in the canter and was dragged for 100 metres

The accident happened late Monday night on the Fatehabad-Bah road near Baba Ki Tibariya in Agra. Witnesses said the impact was so violent that the car was crushed and got wedged into the front section of the canter, which then dragged it for nearly 100 metres before the vehicles finally came to a stop, sending the wreckage skidding along the road. The force of the collision left the car in pieces, and both men died on the spot. The canter's driver abandoned the vehicle right there on the road and fled the scene immediately after the crash.

The deceased have been identified as 38 year old Nitin, a resident of Jajru village in Faridabad, and 40 year old Rupesh, a resident of Bhankapur village. According to their families, the two were close friends who together ran a gym in the Sikri area of Ballabgarh-Faridabad, the business that both their livelihood and friendship were built around. They had left Faridabad for Ayodhya on Monday specifically to visit the Ram Mandir, and the accident occurred as they were making their way back to Faridabad after completing the visit.

Bodies pulled out only after car was cut open with a Hydra machine

Fatehabad police reached the spot soon after being alerted, but the car was so badly mangled that removing the bodies was not straightforward. After considerable manual effort failed to free them, police called in a Hydra machine to cut the wreckage apart piece by piece, and only then could the two bodies finally be extracted. Police have seized the canter and formed separate teams to track down the driver who fled, so that he can be caught soon.

Police say investigation is underway

Fatehabad station in-charge inspector Vinod Kumar Mishra said police are investigating the case. Both bodies were sent for postmortem and have since been handed over to the families so that the last rites could be performed. He added that the search for the canter driver, who remains at large, is still ongoing, with police working to trace him quickly.
