Arunachal Pradesh receives Rs 1,476 crore in Centre’s latest tax transfer

The Central government has disbursed Rs 1,476 crore to Arunachal Pradesh under the latest tax devolution tranche. State officials noted that the financial injection will provide greater flexibility for ongoing welfare and infrastructure initiatives.

A substantial financial infusion has reached the northeastern region as Arunachal Pradesh obtained Rs 1,476 crore from the central administration. This allocation forms a segment of a much larger nationwide distribution intended to strengthen regional governance and support administrative obligations across various states.

A Massive Nationwide Fund Transfer

The total disbursement executed by the Union government on Thursday amounted to Rs 1,09,019 crore distributed among state administrations. This transfer was completed five days prior to the initially scheduled date of November 10. According to the Union Finance Ministry, the early release was specifically structured to assist state authorities in managing financial requirements during the festive season while simultaneously accelerating infrastructure development, capital expenditures, and welfare initiatives.

Appreciation Expressed by State Leadership

Chowna Mein, who oversees the finance, planning, and investment portfolios in the state, took to social media on Friday via his official handle @ChownaMeinBJP to welcome the allocation. He expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the prompt assistance. He noted that the capital allocation offers the state administration greater autonomy in planning and prioritizing local development commitments. Furthermore, he emphasized that this financial support would sustain the current momentum of ongoing projects and enhance the execution of public welfare schemes.

Constitutional Framework of Tax Devolution

Tax devolution functions as a constitutionally mandated mechanism through which a designated portion of central tax revenues is transferred directly to state governments to help them manage their fiscal expenditures and developmental requirements. Under the governing framework recommended by the 16th Finance Commission, states are slated to continue receiving 41 percent of the divisible pool of central taxes throughout the period spanning from 2026-27 to 2030-31, a policy provision that the Central administration has officially accepted.

Projected Figures in the Union Budget

The national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal period has projected total tax devolution to states at Rs 15.26 lakh crore. This reflects a notable increase compared to the revised estimates of Rs 13.93 lakh crore recorded during the 2025-26 period. With these early disbursements, state governments are expected to maintain steady fiscal progress and implement planned capital projects without administrative delays.

When I visited Arunachal, locals told me how fund shortages always hurt during festivals. This big amount will definitely bring relief.

Releasing funds early for the festive season sounds helpful, but will it actually speed up work on the ground? Too often, such money just gets stuck in departmental red tape.

Sandeep Yadav@sandeep-yadav·3h ago

Ravikash ji, you have a point. Files do get stuck in government offices, but getting cash during festivals at least brings some immediate relief.

Getting these funds right before the festive season will really speed up development work there, especially with the budget already in place.

True, Rohan, but getting the funds five days before the Nov 10 deadline is the more interesting part here.
