A disturbing case of violence has emerged from Qureshipur village in the Faridabad district of Haryana, where a 23-year-old woman was subjected to severe physical abuse. The victim suffered burn injuries after boiling water was allegedly poured over her for refusing a forced marriage proposal. Following the assault, she was locked inside a room for multiple days to prevent her from seeking medical help. She was later rescued by the local police and subsequently transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment.
Allegations of Forced Marriage Deal and Boiling Water Attack
The horrifying incident reportedly took place around 4:00 AM on August 16 while the victim, identified as Preeti, was asleep. According to her allegations, a financial transaction of Rs 3 lakh was being arranged to forcibly marry her off to an elderly man. When she firmly resisted the proposal and rejected the marriage, the perpetrators allegedly poured boiling water over her private parts in retaliation. Following the attack, the accused confiscated her mobile phone and locked the premises from the outside, intentionally denying her access to immediate medical care.
Police Break Lock to Rescue Victim from Confinement
The ordeal came to light when the victim's maternal uncle, Pankaj, received information regarding the assault. Pankaj stated that his sister, who also resides in Qureshipur village, phoned him on August 18 to inform him that Preeti had been burned and confined inside the house. Pankaj arrived in Qureshipur on the evening of August 18, but no one opened the door. On August 19, he reported the matter to the Dhauj police station and accompanied a police team to the residence. Officers broke open the door lock and retrieved the victim. She was initially rushed to BK Hospital in Faridabad, but owing to the severity of her burns, doctors referred her to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
Allegations of Sorcery, Forced Divorce, and Illegal Custody
The victim's family members have leveled serious accusations against a neighboring couple. As per Pankaj, Preeti, originally hailing from Tikka Tola Sahapur in Bihar, was married two years ago to Rohit, a resident of Qureshipur who works in a private company. Located directly opposite her home was the residence of Dharmendra and Lalita, who were living together in a cohabitating relationship without legal marriage. Due to proximity, regular interaction developed between them. The family alleged that Lalita used sorcery and black magic tactics to gain control over Preeti, ultimately orchestrating her divorce from Rohit just two months ago. Following the divorce, Dharmendra and Lalita formally adopted Preeti under the promise of treating her as their daughter and arranging her marriage from their household.
Police Investigation and Next Legal Steps
Law enforcement authorities under the Dhauj police station have initiated formal proceedings in the matter. Station House Officer Anil Kumar stated that a dedicated police team is visiting Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi to record the victim's official statement. The officer added that allegations regarding sorcery and the Rs 3 lakh marriage deal have not yet been independently verified by the police. Official law enforcement representatives maintained that further legal action will proceed swiftly based on the statement recorded from the victim.
