Festive celebrations within the Ambani family have consistently drawn attention for their grandeur and rooted cultural aesthetics. From Ganesh Utsav to the nine nights of Navratri, each festival is commemorated with elaborate ethnic elegance. During this Navratri, which coincided with the completion of one year of Swadesh, the entire family appeared in classic ethnic wear, with Isha Ambani's multi-colored lehenga commanding widespread attention. Designed by fashion designer Karan Torani, the garment stands out as a tribute to extensive manual craftsmanship.
Over 90 Days of Detailed Work by 10 Dedicated Artisans
Bringing this lehenga to life required the coordinated efforts of approximately 10 skilled craftspeople. The detailed hand-painted sections alone took more than 90 days to finish. In total, the artisans logged over 2,000 hours of delicate needlework and painting. Torani collaborated with Swadesh to develop the festive presentation, ensuring that regional artisan techniques took center stage throughout the design.
Integration of Kalamkari and Odisha Pattachitra Artwork
The visual centerpiece of the pure silk garment is a confluence of Kalamkari and Odisha's heritage Pattachitra art forms. Depictions of Radha and Krishna's Raasleela are painted across every individual panel of the skirt, as well as on the blouse and dupatta. Framing these painted narratives are layers of intricate zardozi embroidery, French knots, pearl adornments, mirror accents, and hand-stitched tassels. Through this composition, the designer aimed to reflect the rhythmic cadence of Garba, community dance traditions, and the balance of divine grace and fortitude central to Navratri.
From a Modest Garage Setup to High-Profile Recognition
Reflecting on the backstory of the creation, Karan Torani shared how his professional connection with Isha Ambani began. In 2018, when Torani was 25 years old and running his fashion venture out of a small garage, Isha noticed one of his printed kurtas. Torani explained that crafting this elaborate festive outfit was a way to honor that early recognition and celebrate years of shared artistic evolution through hard work.
Styling and Accents for Traditional Dance Celebrations
Beyond the garment itself, the accessorizing choices underscored traditional Indian design elements. Isha paired the lehenga with dangling jhumkas, a structured Gujarati-Rajasthani choker necklace, bangles on the wrists, and open hairstyles accented with Rajasthani-style hair tassels. The combination offers a comprehensive showcase of festive styling tailored for traditional Garba and Dandiya gatherings.
