Kidney patients in Amethi district will soon receive major relief as local health authorities prepare to expand free dialysis facilities to the community health center (CHC) level. Alongside the existing setup at the district hospital, three decentralized CHCs are being equipped to offer specialized care. This step aims to eliminate the need for patients to undertake strenuous travel to neighboring metropolitan centers for routine medical procedures.
Expansion Across Three Sub-Divisions
At present, the district hospital operates an 8-bed dialysis unit to serve local residents. To cater to the growing demand across different regions of the district, health officials have identified three strategic CHCs for expansion. These include the Jagdishpur CHC under Musafirkhana tehsil, the Fursatganj CHC under Tiloi tehsil, and the Amethi CHC under Amethi tehsil.
Each of these three selected health centers will be equipped with 3 dialysis beds, adding a combined total of 9 new beds to the public healthcare network in Amethi. Decentralizing this critical life-support service ensures that individuals living in rural and semi-urban localities can access treatment closer to home without facing scheduling delays.
Relief from Heavy Medical Expenses and Long Travel
Undergoing dialysis treatment in private healthcare facilities is financially draining for most families. Monthly expenditure for private treatment typically ranges between ₹18,000 and ₹50,000, in addition to logistical hurdles. By offering these procedures free of charge at government CHCs, the initiative will protect low and middle-income households from escalating medical debts.
Previously, patients requiring regular dialysis had no choice but to travel long distances to major hospitals in cities like Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Sultanpur. The long journeys added to their physical distress while consuming considerable financial resources on transport. Localized CHC facilities will save both time and money for families across the region.
Official Proposal Awaits Final Government Sanction
Highlighting the impact of the initiative, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anshuman Singh noted that a comprehensive proposal has been submitted to the state government, with approval anticipated shortly. He stated, "This is a far superior arrangement where patients will no longer be forced to go to Lucknow, Prayagraj, or Sultanpur for dialysis." Once the formal approval is granted, setup and installation of dialysis machinery will proceed rapidly across all three CHCs.
