To bolster cancer detection capabilities in Mizoram, two medical practitioners based in the United States, Dr Dahiya and Dr Chauhan, have presented a shipment of 3,875 specialized screening test kits to the Mizoram State Cancer Institute located at Zemabawk in Aizawl. Provided entirely free of cost, this medical donation aims to expand access to early diagnostic services for local residents.
Breakdown of Donated Diagnostic Supplies
The health supplies were organized under an initiative spearheaded by Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh. According to state officials, the primary objective behind providing these diagnostic tools to the Mizoram State Cancer Institute is to reinforce clinical screening procedures and accelerate the timely identification of malignant cases across the region.
The comprehensive consignment comprises four distinct categories of screening tools tailored for specific health evaluations
- Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP) kits: A total of 975 units for screening purposes.
- Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) kits: A batch containing 950 diagnostic tests.
- Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) kits: Exactly 975 specialized test kits included in the supply.
- Fecal Occult Blood kits: A shipment of 975 screening units designed for internal health assessments.
Governor Emphasizes Early Detection and Healthcare Goals
Reflecting on the arrival of the supplies, Governor Vijay Kumar Singh highlighted that public health plays a fundamental role in driving the overall development of the state. He voiced serious concern regarding the elevated incidence of cancer cases and the related mortality rates currently recorded across Mizoram.
Underscoring the critical necessity of prompt diagnosis followed by timely medical intervention, the Governor expressed confidence that the newly acquired screening kits will be utilized efficiently to directly benefit patients. He categorized the donation as a substantial step forward in ongoing state programs addressing the regional cancer burden, while reaffirming his personal dedication to promoting the overall health and well-being of Mizoram citizens.
