If you regularly struggle to fall asleep at night and spend hours tossing and turning in bed or scrolling through your mobile phone, it is time to pay attention to your nightly habits. Often, excessive mental stress or consuming heavy and incorrect foods right before bedtime can disrupt your natural sleep cycle, making it difficult to find rest. Consequently, waking up on time the next morning becomes a struggle, and your overall mood and energy levels take a hit throughout the day. To combat this common issue, Ayurvedic Dr. Saleem Zaidi suggests that introducing a few specific food items into your evening routine can help relax your body and promote better sleep quality.
Foods To Include In Your Diet Before Bedtime
-
Banana: According to Dr. Saleem Zaidi, bananas are packed with essential nutrients like magnesium and tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid that travels to the brain and triggers the release of serotonin, a chemical that subsequently converts into the natural sleep hormone melatonin. Therefore, eating a banana about an hour before going to bed can significantly support a healthy sleep routine. However, if you are managing diabetes, you should avoid consuming bananas at night.
Almonds And Honey: Almonds contain magnesium, which helps soothe the nervous system, while honey assists in the release of melatonin. To prepare this remedy, take four to five soaked almonds at night and consume them mixed with half a spoonful of honey. Incorporating this simple combination into your nightly routine will noticeably improve the quality of your rest.
Nutmeg: Drinking nutmeg-infused milk before going to bed at night is another effective way to enhance sleep quality. Dr. Saleem Zaidi states that nutmeg is widely recognized for its sleep-inducing properties. Before retiring for the night, grate a pinch of nutmeg into a glass of milk, mix it well, and drink it. However, the doctor also advises against consuming excessive amounts of nutmeg.
