A Green Path to Wellness: Yoga Under Ancient Canopies
Udaipur is witnessing an extraordinary environment-friendly health movement. Under a unique campaign on International Yoga Day, yoga enthusiasts are gathering beneath the shade of centuries-old trees. This effort seeks to raise awareness about yoga, promote nature conservation, and encourage people to lead balanced lives. The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, selected "Yoga Against Anti-Aging" as this year's theme, highlighting how regular practice can mitigate the effects of aging and ensure a long, healthy, and active life.
Recreating the Wisdom of Ancient Sages
This novel concept has been brought to life in Udaipur by the Adiyogi Group. Dr. Jaswant Menaria, the founder of the group, shared that yoga originated in India, where ancient sages performed their spiritual and physical practices amidst dense forests and massive trees.
Living close to nature granted them immense mental fortitude, physical strength, and longevity. Inspired by this ancient lifestyle, members of the Adiyogi Group are visiting different parts of Udaipur to perform yoga near massive, historical trees.
The Practice: From Classical Asanas to Aerial Yoga
During these sessions, participants performed a variety of postures including Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Surya Namaskar, Bhujangasana, Trikonasana, Vajrasana, and Padmasana, alongside Pranayama and meditation. These exercises are aimed at enhancing physical balance, flexibility, and mental focus.
Additionally, the group is highlighting the rising trend of Aerial Yoga. The strong, natural hanging roots of giant banyan trees offer an ideal setup for Aerial Yoga. Hanging from these sturdy roots helps practitioners improve their core strength, physical balance, and overall stamina.
A Message of Health and Ecological Responsibility
Udaipur is home to numerous trees that are hundreds of years old. Dr. Menaria emphasized that these trees are not just ecological assets but also invaluable parts of our natural and cultural heritage. Practicing yoga in their presence helps strengthen the human connection with nature, making people realize the critical need for environmental protection. Through this campaign, the Adiyogi Group successfully merges the goals of personal physical fitness with ecological responsibility.
