Nowadays, many people are experiencing premature greying of their hair at a young age. This raises a common question about why hair turns white so early and how it can be kept healthy. Renowned celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar has shared important facts related to hair health and overall wellness.
Why does hair turn white prematurely?
Hair greying is generally a natural process, but when it happens prematurely, genetics can play a major role. Another primary reason is the deficiency of melanin in the body. This deficiency often occurs when individuals start very strict diets, which frequently leads to a shortage of zinc, vitamin B12, and iron in the body. Additionally, oxidative stress caused by a lack of sleep, smoking, and alcohol consumption can also trigger hair whitening.
How to keep hair healthy and nourished?
- Include various lentils in your diet: According to Rujuta Diwekar, different types of lentils should be incorporated into daily meals. Lentils are a rich source of protein, iron, and other essential nutrients that help maintain hair health. Instead of eating the same lentil every day, include moong, masoor, arhar, and urad dal in your routine diet.
- Apply oil to the hair: Regular oiling can also be beneficial for proper hair care. Massaging the scalp gently provides relaxation and makes hair management easier. You can use coconut or sesame oil based on your needs and hair type. However, applying oil does not guarantee that hair greying will completely stop.
- Minimize chemical treatments and heat tools: To keep hair healthy, avoid frequent chemical treatments, straightening, curling, and high-heat styling tools. These can make hair dry, weak, and prone to breakage. Use lower temperatures when drying hair to help prevent potential damage.
