A peculiar case of alleged government property misuse has surfaced in Taropka village located within the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. The matter came to light when official stamps of the Jal Shakti Department were reportedly discovered on the pipes used in constructing the rooftop railing of a residential house belonging to a female employee. Following a formal complaint, a team from the Vigilance Police Station in Hamirpur inspected the premises and confiscated cut samples of the pipes in question. The extraction of these suspected government pipes was conducted directly in the presence of Jal Shakti Department personnel, and the samples were subsequently handed over to the department for formal analysis. Authorities maintain that whether this utilization constitutes an actual case of wrongful misuse can only be confirmed once the ongoing investigation reaches its logical conclusion.
Vigilance Team Reaches the Site Following Complaint
The initial complaint regarding this irregularities was lodged by Rajiv Rana, a member of the Himachal Pradesh Other Backward Classes Commission. According to his allegations, pipes that were officially issued from the Jal Shakti Department store back in the year 2022 for water connections were diverted to fabricate a residential railing. Prompted by this grievance, the vigilance unit visited the spot to verify the claims firsthand. The discovery of official departmental markings on the railing pipes is being treated as a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing inquiry. To ensure proper procedure, technical staff from the Jal Shakti Department were also summoned to the location during the inspection.
Pipe Samples Cut and Strict Instructions Issued
During the site inspection, the vigilance squad severed portions of the installed pipes to serve as evidentiary samples. These collected samples have been handed over to the Jal Shakti Department for further examination. Additionally, clear directives have been issued to the resident family, instructing them not to tamper with or alter the remaining pipes in any manner until the investigation is fully concluded and official findings are submitted.
Statements From the Current and Previous Owners
The female employee involved in the controversy stated that she acquired the residential property in the year 2021. According to her statement, the house already had an operational government water connection installed under the Jal Jeevan Mission at the time of purchase, and the old pipes were subsequently removed when a PVC pipe connection was laid down. To untangle the facts, the former owner of the house was also summoned to the scene during the vigilance proceedings. The previous owner confirmed that pipes had indeed been installed for the water connection back then, though he stated he could not accurately recall the exact quantity of pipes utilized during that installation process.
Political Presence and Departmental Stance
During the course of the vigilance operation, two local Congress leaders connected with the Nadaun assembly constituency arrived at the spot. Reports indicate that one of these individuals is a close relative of the female employee. Professionally, the employee is currently posted in Sujanpur, having previously served under the Hamirpur division. Meanwhile, Rajiv Sehgal, Executive Engineer at the Jal Shakti Department division in Hamirpur, stated that after receiving information from the vigilance unit, the department had dispatched a junior engineer to the site. The pipe samples secured by the vigilance team have been deposited with the department, and he emphasized that the exact situation will only become clear after a thorough departmental inquiry is completed. Complainant Rajiv Rana reiterated that his grievance centers on the unauthorized use of public assets, demanding strict action against the apparent misuse.
