A severe landslide occurred early Saturday morning in the Bothwell region, located near Sanjauli College in the capital city of Shimla. The disaster struck at approximately 4:00 AM while the majority of the local population was asleep, triggering widespread panic across the area. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties, though several residential structures are now facing significant structural threats due to the unstable ground.
Damaged Infrastructure and Impending Danger
The landslide severely impacted the route leading towards Sanjauli College, where a portion of the road foundation collapsed. The debris slid downhill toward the residential houses situated below, resulting in the main pathway being severed in the middle. According to local residents, between three and four buildings are currently at risk, sparking fears that a larger tragedy could occur if the situation worsens.
History of Instability and Growing Anxiety
The affected site is not unfamiliar with such natural disasters. On June 28, 2025, a massive landslide occurred at the exact same location. During that event, debris and boulders cascaded directly into residential homes, trapping women and children inside their own properties. The recurrence of this geological instability in the same zone has left the local community living in constant fear and deep concern for their future safety.
