A shocking incident has come to light from Baddi in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, where the body of a panchayat vice-president was recovered under suspicious conditions. Discovered amidst heavy rainfall near a forest area, the body bore a gunshot wound to the abdomen, triggering widespread concern across the entire region. The local police administration is thoroughly examining all potential angles to determine whether the tragic incident was a deliberate homicide or a sudden accident, with senior officials visiting the spot to gather evidence.
Details Concerning Chillar Panchayat
The entire incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Ramsahar police station area in Baddi, specifically within the Chillar Panchayat. The deceased individual has been identified as 50-year-old Bhagat, a resident of Panola village. According to available information, he had served in the Indian Army and returned to his native village after retiring from military service roughly 10 years ago. The sudden and mysterious death of a local public representative with a military background has left the villagers deeply saddened and bewildered.
Stepped Out of Home on Wednesday Evening
According to reports, Bhagat left his residence on Wednesday evening carrying his licensed firearm. He had headed towards the fields located approximately two kilometers away from his house. Around the time he stepped out, torrential rain began falling in the area. When he failed to return home late into the night despite the severe weather, his family members grew anxious. Relatives and local villagers subsequently initiated a search operation to locate him and check on his well-being.
During the search, Bhagat's body was discovered under suspicious circumstances near the surrounding forests and fields. A bullet injury mark was found on his abdomen, causing panic as news of the discovery spread. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Ramsahar police station immediately rushed to the location. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Nalagarh DSP Bhishma Thakur also arrived at the scene. Additionally, a forensic team was summoned to inspect the area and collect vital evidence from the site.
Post-Mortem Examination to Unravel the Cause
Based on preliminary investigations, the Nalagarh DSP stated that no clear evidence has surfaced so far to indicate that the victim was murdered. He noted that the family has not raised any suspicions or levelled direct allegations of murder against anyone yet. The police have taken possession of the body and other crucial evidence, arranging for the remains to be transferred to AIIMS Bilaspur for a post-mortem examination. Once the autopsy is concluded, the body will be handed over to the grieving family for final rites.
Exploring the Possibility of an Accidental Discharge
At an initial level, investigators are also exploring the possibility that heavy rain made the terrain slippery, causing a fall in the forest or fields during which the licensed gun may have accidentally discharged. It is being surmised that the unexpected shot struck his stomach, leading to fatal consequences. However, the police have not drawn any final conclusions on the matter yet. The exact cause of death will only be definitively established once the post-mortem and forensic investigation reports are finalized, with law enforcement examining every possible angle comprehensively.
