A severe road accident occurred in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday morning, claiming three lives and leaving eight others seriously injured. The tragedy unfolded inside the Hanogi Tunnel on the Chandigarh-Manali four-lane highway when two speeding trucks collided head-on.
Sequence of the Collision and Initial Probe
According to official details, an Eicher truck was traveling from Mandi toward Kullu, while a Tata truck was coming from the opposite direction toward Mandi. Both heavy vehicles collided head-on inside the tunnel. Preliminary investigation suggests that excessive speed and reckless driving inside the enclosure led to the fatal crash.
Rescue Operations and Medical Response
Emergency teams and local police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving reports of the collision. The medical officer at CHC Nagwain pronounced three victims dead upon arrival. Meanwhile, eight injured individuals received emergency care before being transferred to Medical College Nerchowk and Zonal Hospital Kullu. Two of the injured remain in critical condition and are undergoing specialized treatment at Nerchowk.
Police Statement and Current Status
DSP Padhar Lokendra Negi confirmed the details of the accident, stating that police officers are managing traffic and documenting evidence at the site. Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased and notify their families as investigation proceeds.
